With the cost of Internet Access going down and the amount of Websites going up, many Websites have gone to some questionable forms of getting customers. I am talking about those annoying pop-ups and pop-unders. If you don't know what these are, just go to <http://www.aol.com/>. The first thing that will load on your screen is a pop-up window advertising AOL. Now, not all of these are bad, but some are just plain annoying, so what some entrepreneurial companies have done is make software that suppresses these pop-ups! There are many different products out there that do this. I am actually going to be focusing on only a few of them. The first one I am going to talk about is AdSubtract. I personally use this one and have for many years. The company that produces this product is InterMute, Inc. There Website can be found at <http://www.intermute.com/>. On it, you will find a few different products that actually suppress pop-ups. The simplest is Pop-Subtract. Simply, this is a very basic version of AdSubtract that only suppresses pop-ups. Now I said this was a basic version of AdSubtract. So, you might ask, what else does AdSubtract do that I might need? Well, I'm glad you asked. AdSubtract also blocks ads and cookies. How does this benefit me? Well, personally, I hate all the ads on every site that I go to selling this that and the other. I surf for information, not for all the extra garbage that is out there. And besides, blocking the ads actually speeds up your browsing a small amount since you are not downloading extra stuff! If you are actually paying attention to my ramblings, you are probably wondering about the cookies that this product blocks also, well, we will save cookies for another time since that is a whole different subject.

Ok, now that you are slightly familiar with two products that do pretty much the same thing, I want to introduce a product that has also been around for awhile that I have just recently found out about. It is called Filtergate. I have not personally used this product more than AdSubtract, but I will tell you, it looks VERY promising. So, what is the difference between Filtergate and AdSubtract? Well, Filtergate does something that AdSubtract doesn't do. It filters websites. I do admit that this isn't the only product that filters websites, but as far as I have seen, it is the only one that filters websites, ads, pop-ups and cookies. And, for the all inclusive product, is by far the cheapest route. So, if you are interested in filtering web content, pop-ups and ads, this is probably a good choice. It can be found at <http://www.filtergate.com/>. If you are not interested in content filtering, AdSubtract is probably the product for you.

Now, these are not the only products that do pop-up and ad filtering, they are only a two. I am not saying that these are the best or the worse, they are just two that have caught my attention. Good luck with the Ad filtering and pop-up suppression and if you find a product that you like better, or that you think I should review, please let me know!
